CNC Turner Training: Basic Details

As the name suggests, this is a CNC Operator training program. It is a vocational training program. On course completion, successful candidates will obtain a certificate that showcases their qualification.

CNC Machining techniques are used in manufacturing sector. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. It deals with the use of computers to control machine tools. CNC machines come in different forms and sizes. Lathes, mills, grinders, water jet cutters – these are examples of CNC machines. Under CNC machining, these tools can be controlled by using a computer system.

When it comes to manufacturing sector, CNC machines play a crucial role in their functioning. In simple terms, CNC machining improves machining productivity of industrial manufacturing processes. CNC machining brings with it certain advantages such as – better control, precision, productivity etc.

What’s CNC Turner training program all about, you may ask. Broadly speaking, the training program deals with the following topics –

  • Preparation for carrying out turning operations using CNC machines
  • Perform turning operations using CNC machines (on metals)
  • Following work safety rules and regulations

Let us take a closer look at the above topics and find out more details about the training program –

The first thing that this training program does is – familiarize candidates about CNC machines, their features, functions and compatible accessories.

Obtaining job specifications is the second part. Candidates are trained to obtain job specifications from sources such as – operational drawings, blueprints, sketches, illustrations etc.

Once the specifications are collected, it is time to analyze the job and find the fine details (measurements, angles, tools etc). Candidates are trained to identify the following things – raw material, measuring and cutting tools, calibration, dimensions, surface finish etc.

After job specifications, candidates are trained in work area preparation. As part of this stage, they are trained to prepare the work area for operations such as – facing, grooving, threading, drilling, boring and tapping.

Familiarization of work holding devices and relevant tools form the next chapter. As part of this lesson, candidates are introduced to devices, parts and tools such as – hard jaws, soft jaws, fixtures, drive centers, collet chucks, face plates, magnetic/pneumatic devices, hammer, magnifying glass, allen keys, spanner, wrenches, turning tools, deburring tools, grooving tools, parting tools, threading tools, form tools, centre drills, reamers etc.

Next comes making trial runs. Critical parameters of the machine are measured after the trial run. If necessary, offsets are corrected.

Candidates are also taught to perform different types of turning operations using different types of materials (stainless steel, plastic, copper, aluminium etc).

Machine lubrication and cleaning also forms an integral part of CNC Turner training course. Candidates are trained in areas such as – maintenance, cleaning, lubricating, checking and maintaining coolant levels etc.

Let us take a closer look at the course details. In the next section, you will find details such as – duration, fees, scope, eligibility and more.
