Bikash Bhavan Scholarship or as more popularly known Swami Vivekananda Scholarship is a merit-cum-means scholarship programme (SVMCM) for the commendable students of West Bengal. The Government of Bengal administers this scheme and thus, has permitted a scholarship amount of INR 2000 Crore.

Details of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

SVMCM is only offered to candidates who have recently passed Madhyamik, higher secondary examination or are currently pursuing courses in the field of engineering, medical, M.Phildiploma, doctorate etc.

However, based on the different categories/levels of students that can apply for this scholarship, there are some other things too that play an important role in deciding whether or not the candidate is eligible for the same.

High School Students

Candidates that have cleared the Madhyamik exam 2023 by scoring a minimum of 75% and have taken admission in 10+2 courses in any stream are eligible for this scholarship.

Undergraduate Scholarship

Taking into consideration the best of five, candidates should have scored a minimum of 75% in their higher secondary examinations. These are students who have already enrolled themselves into the first year of the graduation.

Other students who have taken admission in the 2nd year of UG course in Engineering after passing Diploma course in 2023 with at least 75% aggregate from Polytechnic colleges are also eligible for application.

Diploma Candidates who have passed Madhyamik examination 2023 or VOCLET and then taken admission in the first year diploma (polytechnic) course and enrolled in 2nd year diploma (polytechnic) course on the basis of a lateral entry are also eligible.

They must score 75% minimum marks in their qualifying examination in order to apply for the scholarship.

Postgraduate Students

At the undergraduate level, interested students must score an aggregate of 53% in honours subjects. Engineering students at graduation level who have already taken admission in the first year of post-graduation in engineering or general education with at least 55% marks are eligible for application.

Kanyashree K3 Scholarship

Recipients of Kanyashree with valid authorised K2 ID pursuing post- graduation level education (any stream) in the state of West Bengal are required to obtain 45% at graduation level.

K3 applicants are not required to submit their income certificate or income affidavit.

Selection Process for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

Other than passing the eligibility criteria given above for different categories of candidates, only students whose family’s annual income is less than INR 2,50,000 can apply for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship.

Documents Required For Application

Process For Application for The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

Step 1: In order to apply online for Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-means scholarship or (SVMCM), candidates must visit the website www.svmcm.wbhed.gov.in and click on the option ‘register here’.

Step 2: Read the given information on the page that opens up. After that tick on the box below and press ‘Proceed for Registration’.

Step 3: Select the correct Directorate according to your current course in the registration category and then tap on “apply for fresh application”.

Step 4: Now provide your Name, phone number, date of birth, email Id and other information. Then create a password and register yourself. You will need this password for logging onto the dashboard in the future.

Step 5: Once registration is done you will receive an application ID. You will require this ID number for your future logins.

Step 6: Now you have to login to the dashboard by using your application ID and password. In order to add more details to the information regarding the scholarship scheme, tap on ‘edit/profile application’.

Step 7: Fill out the complete form with your current course details, address, communication details, qualifying exam details and upload your scanned photograph along with signature. Now click on save and next.

Step 8: Here is a list of documents that you will need to upload to the website portal for verification.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Renewal
