VEGETABLE UTHAPPAM RECIPE Ingredients & Instructions

Vegetable Uthappam Recipe / Vegetable Uthappam / Mixed Vegetable Uttapam Recipe

Vegetable uthappam recipe is a delicious and spicy uttapam recipe with lots of vegetables. Vegetable Uttapam is a thick dosa topped with mix vegetables. Uttapam is a south Indian Breakfast prepared from Dosa batter. You can serve as a breakfast or as dinner. Serve with coconut chutney.

For Batter:—- –

  • Rice – 2 cup
  • Urad Dal – 1 cup
  • Baking Soda – a pinch
  • Salt as per taste –
  • Oil for frying –

For Topping:—- –

  • Chopped Cabbage – 1/4 cup
  • Chopped Green Chili – 2-3 nos.
  • Chopped Tomato – 1/4 cup
  • Chopped Capsicum – 1/4 cup
  • Chopped Beans – 1/4 cup
  • Chopped Cauliflower – 1/4 cup
  • Chopped Onion – 1/2 cup
  • Chopped Ginger – 1tbsp
  • Grated Gajar – 1/4 cup


  • Wash and soak dal and rice for overnight.
  • In a grind, add soaked dal and rice and make fine paste.
  • In a bowl, add fine paste, salt, baking soda and make a slightly thick batter and keep the mixture at a warm place to ferment it for 7-8 hour or you can also use ready made Idli Dosa batter.
  • Take out some batter and dilute with water till you reach the right consistency and it should be thick but easy to spread.
  • Heat a heavy-bottomed pan on a medium flame.

  • When hot, add a few drops of oil to it and swirl to coat all sides of the pan.

  • Now pour a ladle full of batter onto the pan and lightly use the ladle to spread the batter into a circular shape from the center outwards, make a circle of diameter roughly 5-6″.

  • Drizzle with a little oil and lift the edges of the uttappam to allow oil to go under it.

  • Flip now and cook it till the other side turns little golden brown.

  • Server hot vegetable uthappam with green coriander chutney.
