What is cricket?
The game of cricket is played between two teams of eleven players. The game takes place on a 22-yard pitch. The wickets are made up of two bails balanced on three stumps. The team that scores the most points wins. The players alternate the fielding duties. A player may not be part of more than one team.
Cricket is one of the oldest games in existence. It first gained popularity in England during the 16th century. The first definite reference is found in a court case in 1598, in which coroner John Derrick testified that a game had been invented. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the game spread to countries in the British Empire. Today, cricket is popular in England, Australia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and many other countries.
The ICC is responsible for many international events including ICC World Cup which help boost the game’s popularity and attract new players.
