Harappan city of Dholavira in Kutch among UNESCO’s world heritage sites

On 27th July 2023, World Heritage Committee has inscribed The historic Harappan City ‘Dholavira’ in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat on UNESCO’s World Heritage list during the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO.

  • Few days ago, Kakatiya Rudreshwara temple in Telangana ( Ramappa Temple), was inscribed on the list.

Assam CM lays the foundation stone of bamboo industrial park

On 26th July 2023, Himanta Biswa Sarma, The chief minister of Assam State, has laid the foundation stone of a bamboo industrial park at Manderdisa Village, Dima Hasao. The DoNER ministry will implement the project with Rs 50 crore over an area covering 75 hectares. once completes, would usher in a new era in the economy of the region and will help in creating vast employment opportunities for the local youth.

  • In Dima Hasao, Bamboo was produced and earlier mostly exported to paper mills. now, with the completion of the park new avenues would create to use bamboo for the production of tiles, incense stick, ceiling and so on, which will give more economic benefit to the people.

Basavaraj Bommai as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka

On 27th July 2023, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Basavaraj S Bommai as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. his appointment was done following the legislative party meeting at Bengaluru’s Capitol hotel.

  • 61-year-old Basavaraj Bommai will take place of BS Yediyurappa, who resigned on July 26, 2023.
  • On 28th July 2023, he will take an oath as the new CM of the state and will serve as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka.
  • Basavaraj has served as the home minister in Yediyurappa’s council of ministers.
  • He is considered a close confidant of former chief minister BS Yediyurappa.
  • Basavaraj Bommai started his political career with the Janata Dal. Later, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in February 2008.

Rajnath Singh to attend SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting in Tajikistan

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh is on his visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan from July 27-29, 2023. during his visit, he will attend the annual meeting of the Defence Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states. INS Talwar Participates in Maritime Exercise Cutlass Express 2023

On 26th July 2023, Exercise Cutlass Express 2023 has been started and will conclude on August 6, 2023. Indian Naval Ship (INS) Talwar is participating in Exercise Cutlass Express 2023 along the East Coast of Africa in Mombasa, Kenya the main aim of this exercise is to improve combined maritime law enforcement capacity and increase interoperability between the regional navies.

  • The Exercise Cutlass Express 2023 (CE21) will continue from July 26 to August 06, 2023.
  • The 2023 edition of the exercise icludes the participation of 12 Eastern African countries, US, UK, India and various international organisations, such as International Maritime Organisation (IMO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Interpol, EurEuropean Union Naval Forc (EUNAVFOR), Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO) and EUCAP Somalia.

12th Edition of Indo-Russia joint military Exercise INDRA 2023 will start from 1st August 2023 and will end on 13 August 2023 at Volgograd, Russia. the Exercise INDRA 2023 will include counter-terror operations under the United Nations mandate by a joint force against international terror groups.

  • 250 personnel from both the nations will form part of the exercise. 
  • Exercise INDRA-21 will boost strengthen mutual confidence and interoperability between the Indian & Russian Armies.
  • It will help in enabling sharing of best practices between the contingents of both the countries.
  • The exercise will be yet another milestone in strengthening security cooperation and will serve to reinforce the longstanding bond of friendship between India and Russia.

IMF Projects Indian economic growth forecast for FY22 at 9.5% & FY23 at 8.5%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded India’s economic growth projection by 300 basis points to 9.5 percent for the current financial year. earlier, it was estimated to be 12.5 percent. IMF revised the GDP projection due to “lack of access to vaccines” and the possibility of renewed waves of coronavirus disease.

  • IMF has also predicted that the gross domestic product (GDP) of India will be 8.5%for FY23 (2023-23) which is more than its earlier projection of 6.9%.
  • The World Bank has estimated India’s GDP growth to grow at 8.3 percent in 2023 and 7.5 per cent in 2023.

Japanese Yuto Horigome has won the first-ever skateboarding competition at the Olympic Games. the competition was held at Ariake Urban Sports Center, in Tokyo.
