The Prathibha scholarship is a project set up to encourage high school students wanting to pursue research as their career. This project operates under the Student with Talent and Aptitude for Research in Science (STARS) program and is officially recognized as the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) – Prathibha Scholarship and is carried out by the Women Scientist Division of the KSCSTE

Eligibility Criteria for the Prathibha Scholarship 

To apply for a Prathibha Scholarship, it is necessary for a student to fall under the following criteria:

  1. The candidates need to have successfully completed their education in the state of Kerala.
  2. The candidate cannot be a scholar of any other scholarship program. 
  3. The candidate cannot take an academic break during the 5 years of aid provided by the scholarship.
  4. The candidate needs to have passed their higher secondary or post matric examination (Class 12) in an institute located in Kerala
  5. The candidate needs to be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in natural or basic sciences in any institute across India.

Prathibha Scholarship Renewal

To apply for a scholarship renewal, the scholar needs to have been benefitted from the scholarship for 3 years consecutively and for students doing their 2nd and 3rd year of the Bachelor’s Degree program and students doing their 2nd of post-graduation, they need to have been graded a minimum of 60% during their preceding academic year. It is also necessary that there should be no break in study during the entire five year period of availing the scholarship. The student must not take the gap in the year of study. Such a student is not eligible for the PM scholarship.

Those who are availing Pratibha Scholarship should not accept or hold any another scholarship for the same course of study.

Steps to apply for the Prathibha Scholarship

Given below are the steps to apply for the scholarship online:

  1. Enter the candidate’s personal info to complete the registration, i.e. their name, address, email ID, passport size photo, higher secondary examination registration number and so on.
  2. After entering the personal info, a data sheet approved by the Head of Institution where the candidate has been registered will be issued.
  3. In addition to the attested copy of the Class 12 mark-sheet, the approved data sheet needs to be submitted to the KSCSTE before the deadline.
  4. Subsequent to a successful survey, a temporary rank-list will be posted on the KSCSTE portal.

The students who get shortlisted for the scholarship need to submit the documents listed below:

  • Certificate containing evidence that Kerala is the student’s place of birth
  • SC/ST Community Certificate
  • Status Verification Certificate as suggested
  • An Advance Receipt containing bank detail as suggested
  • Signature on the Terms and Conditions

Required documents for pratibha scholarship

  • Self attested Mark sheet of Intermediate Education
  • Data-sheet of an applicant duly signed by the applicant and endorsed by the Head of the Institute last attended
  • Caste Certificate for SC/ST applicants
  • Domicile Certificate (Applicant should be of Kerala origin)
  • Passport size Photograph of an applicant
  • Income Certificate of Father/Mother

Selection Criteria for Pratibha Scholarship

The selection criteria for the Pratibha scholarship are given below.

The scholarship is awarded as per the ranking based on the marks scored in higher secondary examination for all science subjects.

Total 100 scholarships are awarded every year and out of these 100 scholarships, 10% are reserved for SC/ST category candidates and 50% for female candidates. The list of the selected candidates will be released on the KSCTE website in the month of November or December each year.

Candidates must remember that if they get selected for Prathibha Scholarship, then they will not be allowed to apply for any other scholarship during the period of Prathibha Scholarship. 

The candidates cannot avail the benefits of the Pratibha Scholarship if they have applied for other scholarship programs.

Advantages of the Prathibha Scholarship

Different amounts are awarded under the Prathibha Scholarship depending on the grade and the timespan of the program pursued by the student. It is usually awarded to students completing their Bachelor’s Degree which last for up to 3 years or integrated courses which last for 5 years. The aid provided by the scholarship according to the course chosen by the student is as follows:

MSc Degree (in addition to the Bachelor’s Degree program) 1st/4th year: ₹40,000

2nd/5th year: ₹60,000

Other advantages of the scholarship include attendance at the IISER- Trivandrum summer courses for eight lucky scholars, an opportunity to intern at in leading R&D organizations and a chance to be part of the Science Enrichment courses. The candidates also get a stipend after the completion of their internship period. The internship certificate is very useful to the candidates in the future.
