Prime Minister Imran Khan called the allegations of former FIA director general Bashir Memon against him and his cabinet members baseless, saying he never asked him to make a case against Supreme Court’s Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
In a meeting with TV anchorpersons, the premier said he never asked Memon to make terrorism case against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz.
Memon, in his interview with Geo News, had claimed that PM Khan’s Advisor on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar and Law Minister Farogh Naseem wanted him to make a money laundering case against Justice Qazi Faez Isa but he refused to do so because it wasn’t the FIA’s mandate to investigate a supreme court judge.
Memon had further claimed that PM Khan wanted him to make a terrorism case against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz after she played a video of former judge Arshad Malik in her 2019 press conference in Lahore.
The FIA DG can’t make a reference against a supreme court judge, PM Khan said, questioning why would he ask him to do that.
He said Memon only used to brief him on the developments in cases against the Omni group.
He, however, admitted he asked Memon to look into the matter of former defence minister Khawaja Asif’s work permit.
But PM Khan said the decision to initiate investigation against him was taken in the cabinet meeting.

The explosive revelations Former Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon made on a news show have opened a new pandora’s box in Pakistani politics.
While making an appearance on the Geo News program Ajj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Mr. Memon has slapped series of allegations against the prime minister and his cabinet members.
Speaking in the programme, Memon said the law minister and the adviser wanted him to proceed against Justice Faez Isa on money laundering charges, but he refused because only the Supreme Judicial Council could do that.
He said that we went to the office of Forough Naseem, the law minister was also convinced that there should be an inquiry, I tried very hard to explain that it does not come in our TORs.
The former FIA chief added that he had not made any inquiries to date and that he could not, adding that he had referred to the law.
He said that the police is a law enforcement agency, how can it do illegal work against a judge, after consulting with the legal team, he also said that my position is right.
Bashir Memon also said that Pakistan has a constitution and a Supreme Court. As police officers, we have the experience that we cannot go into the rules and regulations of the judiciary.
“I had no choice, I thought I would go beyond my TORs,” he said. “Dr. Ashfaq thought I could do it.”
The former head of the FIA told the Prime Minister that you are a competent officer to start work. I said how can I do illegal work even against a judge?
He also alleged that the PM kept telling him how great it was that nobody ever challenged Muhammad bin Salman’s decisions in Saudi Arabia and that he should go see how things are done in that country rather than constantly talking about the constitution and law.
He has replied to PM that there is a monarchy in Saudi Arabia, there is democracy in Pakistan, not only arrest but also conviction.
The former FIA chief said that the government also wanted to make a case of treason against Khawaja Asif.
Law Minister Farogh Naseem has dismissed the allegations slapped by the former DG FIA Bashir Memon terming them as baseless.
Farogh Naseem has said that he never talked to Bashir Memon about Qazi Faiz Issa. Azam Khan, Shehzad Akbar, and Bashir Memon never came to my office together.
“Azam Khan once came to my office to talk about legal reform,” he said.
The law minister also said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, Azam Khan, or Shehzad Akbar never told me that they had talked to Bashir Memon about Justice Isa.
Adviser on Accountability and Admission Shehzad Akbar has termed the interview of former DG FIA Bashir Memon as baseless and nonsense.
He said that Bashir Memon was never called to the Prime Minister or to meet him on the issue of Qazi Faiz Issa.
Neither the law minister nor he had any meeting with Bashir Memon on the issue.
Shehzad Akbar further added that Bashir Memon was never asked to initiate any case against any particular person.
Only one case of mutiny was referred to the FIA by the federal cabinet.
