Ranchi University is a Public and state University located in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand India. It was set up on 12 July 1960 and Bishnudeo Narayan Singh was its first vice chancellor. It is affiliated to the UGC, AIU and NAAC. The University now spans five districts of Jharkhand; Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. The current vice chancellor of this University is R.K. Pandey. Currently the University consists of 15 constituent colleges, 49 affiliated colleges and 23 PG departments. The University offers UG, PG & Research programmes along with vocational courses in various specializations. The colleges under Ranchi University offer courses in Medical, Engineering, Management, Science, Arts and Law streams.

The University also prepare students for jobs and NET/SET examinations by running coaching classes for ST, SC and for minorities. The University also held remedial classes for SC, ST and for minorities as well.

The motive of this university to offer world-class education, creative learning, innovative ideas in various fields so that its students can meet with the global environment.

Ranchi University gives fully freeship to two BPL students and two scholarship for Rs 500 per month to two meritorious BPL students in each post graduate department. Also, five BPL students are given full freeship in each self financing courses.

The University comprises of different faculties i.e. Commerce, Humanities, Science, Social Science, Medicine, Education, Engineering, B.B.A LL.B & Master of Laws and Jyotirvigyan.

Admission:

Admission in Ranchi University is based on merit as well as entrance based such as MBA course is based on entrance exam i.e. CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA. Admission in MBBS, BDS is based in NEET-UG exam, B.Sc and M.Sc admission is based in the entrance exam i.e. Nursing. For B.Tech admission candidate must qualify JCECE or JEE Main exam for admission purpose
