Sanditon MASTERPIECE’s bold and flamboyant adaptation of Austen’s latest work. Austen fans may be less familiar with Sensation and Tenderness, Emma and Pride and Prejudice, set in Sanditon, a seaside town of the same name. Austen, who was chronically ill with a mysterious illness when she began her untitled novel in January 1817, wrote her last lines on March 18, 1817. He died exactly four months later.

Adapted from Jane Austen’s unfinished novel and developed by Emmy and Bafta winner Andrew Davies, Sanditon left the fans in suspense with a heartbreaking finale in its first season. In the new season of the series, action-packed episodes and new characters await the audience. This season, colorful characters include confident war hero Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones, Grace) and Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Industry), a mysterious neighbor with a complicated family history.
First up, actor Ben Lloyd-Hughes will join the cast, who will play Alexander Colbourne. Little is known about the character so far, and he is described as ‘a mysterious resident with a complex family history. Actor Lloyd-Hughes played Tsar Alexander in the BBC’s 2016 adaptation of War and Peace. He has also appeared in Industry, Skins, The Hour, Personal Affairs, and A Seri Killer’s Guide to Life.
The casting news came after James announced in May 2023 that he would not be returning for season 2 soon after Sanditon ‘s surprise renewal. Meanwhile, Leo Suter, who played Sydney’s romantic rival Young Stringer in Sanditon Season 1, was not named in PBS’s latest broadcast announcement. With Sidney off the pitch, it looked like Stringer could take center stage in upcoming episodes. But it seems the show has other plans.
