She then moved to the South film industry by debuting in the Telugu movie named Hai. After acting in Hai, Thukral starred alongside Fahad Fazil in his movie debut Kaiyethum Doorath. The Malayalam movie was not a box office benefit, but Nikita was able to find additional roles in Tamil and Telugu films like Kurumbu and Sambaram.
In the year 2005, Nikita entered Kannada (Sandalwood) cinema with S. S. Niwas’s Maharaja. The actress then returned to star in a Tamil movie (Kollywood) and starred in Venkat Prabhu’s multistarrer Saroja as Kalyani, the muse of a criminal portrayed by Sampath Raj, and gained critical acclaim for her performance. Her play in the song “Kodana Kodi” was appreciated as the song became famous, while her character in the movie also led to her getting the International Tamil Film Awards (ITFA) Best Supporting Actress Award. The success led Thukral to contract on to perform in big movie production, Gautham Menon’s Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam in a part opposite successful actress Trisha Krishnan, but the movie was shelved after two schedules.
