Levels of Courses Covered in this Scholarship    

There are two levels of higher studies that are covered under Commonwealth Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded by the UK government. 

• Masters Scholarship: These scholarships are for those students who are the citizens of least developed countries and weak states that are part of the Commonwealth of nations.
• Ph.D. Scholarship: These scholarships are for those students who come from those countries whose income is categorized as low and middle. These countries should also be part of the Commonwealth of nations. 

To be eligible for a commonwealth scholarship must be pursuing their masters and Ph.D. course in fields such as promoting global prosperity, access, inclusion and opportunity, strengthening health systems and capacity, etc.

Eligibility Criteria considered for this scholarship, are as follows 

• You need to be a citizen permanently residing in India. Your age should not exceed 40 years. 
• You must be available to start your degree in the UK from the beginning of the academic year (generally in September or October of the respective year) of the country.
•  You should have either completed or expecting to complete your bachelor’s (for applicants to the master’s program) or master’s (for PhD applicants) degree before the start of the academic year in UK. 
• You should secure at least 60% marks in humanities/social sciences or at least 65% marks in science/engineering and technology/agriculture in your bachelor’s/master’s degree. 

You should not be having the means of funding your study in UK without this scholarship. If you have already been abroad for study or training previously either on any scholarship or otherwise, for a period exceeding 6 months, you will be eligible to apply for this scholarship only if you have resided in India for at least two years after returning from abroad as on the date of application. The application will  not be considered if you are already abroad. There is a duration for both the fields mentioned, for the masters the duration is for 1 year and for the PhD scholars the duration is 3 years with several other benefits involved like warming cloths, and living expenses. 

To apply for this scholarship one have to keep an eye on the notice issued by the ministry of Human resources development (MHRD) under the Government  of India. The candidates have to are administered to apply for both, ministry of Human resources development and the Commonwealth notice Scholarships Commission’s portal through the links mentioned in the  notice. Shortlisted applicants will have to appear for an interview, after which final selection are made by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission.
