Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the prostate gland and these cancer cells start to grow out of control. It is a small walnut-shaped gland in males that is helpful in producing the seminal fluid that nourishes and transport sperms. There are two types of situations, one – in which cancer cells grow slowly and may confined to the prostate gland where they may not cause serious harm and second –  in which cancer cells also grow slowly like first one but it requires minimal to no treatment but this type is aggressive and spread quickly.

Types

Most of the cases of Prostate Cancer are Adenocarcinomas and these cancer cells develop from the gland. Some other types of prostate cancer are: –

  • Small Cell Carcinomas
  • Neuroendocrine Tumors
  • Transitional Cell Carcinomas
  • Sarcomas

Above-mentioned types of prostate cancer are found very rare because if anyone is told that he has prostate cancer then it is almost adenocarcinomas.

Some of the prostate cancers grow and spread rapidly but most of the prostate cancers grow slowly and they have no effect on human beings. Studies show that many older men, who died because of another disease, had prostate cancer. But neither those people nor their doctors knew during their life time that they had this disease.

Causes

The exact cause of prostate cancer is not clear yet but it is confirmed that when cells in prostate start developing changes in their DNA. As, a cell’s DNA gives instructions that what to do but the changes tell the cells to grow and divide more rapidly than normal cells. So, the abnormal cells start growing, dividing rapidly and continue to living whereas other cells would die.

The gathering of abnormal cells forms a tumor that attacks to nearby tissues. Then abnormal cells break and spread to other parts of the body.
